Privacy Policy

This policy covers the SidePlot game at play.sideplot.app, the SidePlot apps for iPhone and Android once they're released, and this website at sideplot.app. SidePlot is made by Dottie Interactive LLC (“we”, “us”).

The short version

• No sign-up. You never give us an email address, a phone number or a password to play.
• No ads, no analytics or tracking tools, and we don't sell or share your data.
• No microphone, no location, no contacts and no recording, ever.
• Games are deleted automatically 30 days after they end.

What the game collects

• An anonymous player ID. The first time you open SidePlot we create a random ID for your device so you can reconnect to a game if your phone locks or the page reloads. It isn't linked to your name, email or phone number. The ID is stored on your device (in your browser's storage, or in the app).
• The name you type. The display name you enter when you host or join is stored with that game and shown to the other players. Your device also remembers it so you don't have to type it again. A first name or nickname is all the game needs.
• What happens in the game. The game code and settings, who joined, which plots were dealt and to whom, your claims and when you made them, any notes you write about a claim, your answers to plot twists, your accusation, how you confirmed or voted at the reveal, and the scores. Notes and plots are shown to everyone in that game at the reveal, so write them knowing the table will hear them.
• Pro packs. If a host buys a Pro pack, the payment is handled by the app store or payment provider and we never see card details. We store only that the host's player ID has Pro and when it expires.
• Basic connection data. Like every website, the servers that deliver SidePlot see your IP address and browser or device type when you connect. Our hosting providers use this to deliver the service and protect it from abuse, and keep it only briefly in their logs.

What it doesn't

• Camera. The iPhone and Android apps can use the camera to scan a game's QR code, only when you open the scanner. Scanning happens on your device and no images are stored or sent anywhere. The web version never asks for the camera.
• No microphone, location, contacts, photos or recording. SidePlot only knows what players tap. Whether a plot really happened is decided by the people at the table.
• No push notifications. The game doesn't send them.
• No advertising or tracking. No ad networks, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and no linking your data with data from other companies.

This website

sideplot.app is a plain information site. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. If you email us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply.

Who handles your data

• Supabase runs our database and the anonymous sessions, and relays live game updates between phones.
• Vercel hosts this website and the web version of the game.
• Apple and Google distribute the apps and process in-app purchases once the apps are released. Their own privacy policies apply to those services.

We don't share your data with anyone else unless the law requires it.

How long we keep things

• Games, including names, plots, claims, notes, accusations and scores: deleted automatically 30 days after the game ends.
• Anonymous player IDs that haven't been used in 90 days: deleted, unless they hold an active Pro pack.
• On your device: your player ID and remembered name stay until you clear your browser data or delete the app.
• Support emails: kept for up to two years after our last reply, then deleted.
• Backups roll over within 30 days, so deleted data leaves them within that window too.

Your choices

• Delete sooner. Email support@sideplot.app with the game code and the name you played under, and we'll remove it. See Delete your data for details.
• Forget this device. Clearing your browser's site data for play.sideplot.app (or deleting the app) removes your player ID and saved name from the device.
• Access or correction. Email us and we'll tell you what we hold for a game you were in, or fix it. Because there are no accounts, we may ask a question about the game to make sure it was yours.

Children

SidePlot's Family setting is made for mixed ages, so kids often play along with an adult hosting. We don't ask for any personal information beyond the display name typed into a game, which is deleted with the game. If you're a parent and want a game removed sooner, email us and we'll do it.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Since there are no accounts, we can't email you, so check back here.
